EDUCATION IN NEW YORK CITY
I think that Dr. Tisch has a good point. The High School education/testing system is far too easy. As a student, even I have noticed how easy it is to succeed in school. Truthfully, unless a student takes AP classes, they will not be very well prepared for "the college experience." As for her potential candidacy for the mayor of New York, I am in complete support. Bloomberg has been in office for quite some time and perhaps what this state needs is a new mayor, especially a mayor who is so strong willed. Tisch is the perfect candidate and her stress on education is what students need.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dan in the fact that Dr. Tisch has a great point. A lot of people don't benefit too much from high school. Most of the stuff they learn is easy for them because they have learned it before. This is why some many people think they can slack through high school. If people took high school more serious and like Dan said, took AP and honors classes they would learn more and better prepare themselves for the future. although I agree she has a great point I'm not in support of her becoming the mayor of New York. just because she has great ideas as Schools Chancellor, doesn't mean she would make a great mayor. Bloomberg has been doing a great job, and there is no need to change that as of now. Tisch should continue to be the Schools Chancellor and continue to make radical changes that will greatly benefit our education in positive ways.
ReplyDeleteI agreed with Dan and Oren that some students find the high school system easy but i dont think all students think that, there are some students that are having problems in high school and try to hide it by not caring about school work, and pretending to be cool in school And not admitting that they need someone to help them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dan,Oren and Catia that there's many students that when they graduate from high school need more help than others. But at the same time there is some students that try to learn in school but is difficult for them and for that reason they are going to have problems in the future. Also, for some students high school is too easy so they don't put that much effort as the others did. Taking AP Classes can be beneficial because they have more responsibilities and therefore they are going to learn more.
ReplyDeleteLike Dr. said, some students are not challenge and pushed to achieve all that they can. However, this does not necessarily mean that AP classes are fit for slackers. An AP class should be for those who are truly interested in the subject and willing to do the work. By sticking someone who is not motivated into a challenging class it will not benefit them. Although, I do think it is a great thing that they are offered and everyone has the opportunity to be in them in they work hard enough. In addition, there are some students who put in effort and are benefiting from average classes. There should always be a variety in the level of classes in each school. As far as Dr. Trish and the position of Mayer of New York, I feel that she is doing a great job where she is. Mayor Bloomberg has been a great Mayor and has done nothing that would call for a new figure in his position. Trish should continue being a strong supporter of education because she has many valid points to improve the education system.
