This article reminded me of Frederick Douglass' speech and Langston Hughes' poems. When the article mentioned the many attempts of women to gain suffrage, it reminded me of Douglass' message. In his speech, he even went as far as to say that women must fight to get what they want. By persistently fighting for the right to vote, women demonstrated their dedication to the state, even though Representative Stanley Bowdle of Ohio said that, "...women are not interested in the state." Also, in Langston Hughes' poem "Mother to Son" he wrote, "I'se still climbin'". By this he meant that even after the fight for what he wanted, he is still fighting. In relation to women's rights, women have gained suffrage, which is what they were fighting for, but they are still experiencing inequality.
